For International Women's Day 2022, we decided to celebrate successful women in our business, get to know them and promote their achievements both inside and outside of the workplace.
Please describe your role and journey at Midwich.
I am a Collection Manager here at Midwich. I’ve joined the company in 2018 after a long time at my previous employer but I took the leap of faith to work for a company that cared about its staff, was forward thinking and going places. In 2019, I won the Outstanding Achievement Award which is one of my biggest achievements since being here.
How did the pandemic affect your role?
2019 was relatively normal but then 2020 hit and it was hard for the team. We had to pull together as a team and I’m so proud of what we did. It was about listening and working with our customers to get them through to the other side and carry-on trading.
What do you do to support your team?
I think it’s about approachability. It’s important that they know they can come to me whether it’s a work problem or a personal problem. It doesn’t matter how awful the situation, we will work together and come up with a solution.
Do you consider yourself a leader?
Yes, I do. I had never considered myself a leader before I joined Midwich. I think I always had it in me but I needed someone to have faith in me to realise my full potential.
Have you always wanted to work in finance?
I wanted to be a teacher but I think me not getting into teaching was a blessing in disguise. Although it wasn’t my dream to work in collections - I love it!
If you could do anything else, what would it be?
I would like to work with children with special needs.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
I love ironing!
Who is your role model?
I like Princess Diana. She went against the rules and I’m one of those people that like to push the boundaries. Of course, I can’t miss out Louise!
What advice would you give to someone wanting to be successful?
Follow your heart, put everything into it and see where it takes you.
Do you feel successful?
Absolutely! It’s when people recognise something that you’ve done without you having to tell them. I really treasure that!
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.
International Women's Day has occurred for well over a century with the first gathering held in 1911. The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
