For International Women's Day 2022, we decided to celebrate successful women in our business, get to know them and promote their achievements both inside and outside of the workplace.
How long have you worked at Midwich?
20 years.
What does your role involve?
I’m old school, I love selling products! As well as managing the team, I still hold a high level of customer contact to ensure I’m still knowledgeable and up to date with our channel. I want to maintain the excellent relationships I’ve built throughout the last 20 years.
How did you progress into your management role?
I evolved into the management role, I never saw myself as a line manager or had any ambition to be. Over time, with experience, the opportunity to manage presented itself. I’ve used my skills to coach people, but I’ve got the best of both worlds as I didn’t want to give up the sales element that I love.
What has made you stay at Midwich for so long?
I didn’t plan on staying so long but I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else. It ticks all of the boxes and Midwich is embedded in me! It still drives me, it still makes me feel motivated and I think the challenges and opportunities are endless.
What is your favourite thing about Midwich?
The people, the culture and the atmosphere. I love being on the sales floor – it has buzz, excitement and a fun element. It’s challenging too! Even after 20 years, I’m still learning and not a day goes by without something new occurring.
If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be?
The Queen. I think she’s totally inspirational and I’d like to quiz her!
How do you manage stress?
Walking, spending time in the fresh air and enjoying nature. I live in a beautiful part of the world and the outside is my feel-good booster. We work in technology day in day out so it’s important to have that escapism.
What motivates you every day at Midwich?
On a professional level, seeing my team happy and smashing their targets, developing relationships with customers and vendors and winning deals. From a personal point of view, I’m very self-motivated.
Do you prefer working at home or in the office?
I can equally motivate myself at home or in the office, so I don’t have a preference. But it’s always good to have people around you. I’m a very sociable person and I enjoy the buzz on the sales floor.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Believe in yourself and be happy with who you are!
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.
International Women's Day has occurred for well over a century with the first gathering held in 1911. The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
